Roy Thode was an amazing DJ! I got the chance to hear him at Ice Palace 57 and Red Parrott and Underground.......Love his style, Frank Hulihan emulated Roy's style and many Sunday Tea Dances at IP57 were fabulous because of Roy! Great page and awesome music!
Roy's music has touched me for years. Thank you for your work maintaining his legacy.

As a DJ playing to the gay croud in the 70s & 80s around Southampton England, I worshiped the professionalism of Roy, I could not afford the ticket to NY so was content with his music and the way he mixed his sounds! His legacy will live forever!

Happy Birthday, Roy! While we can only imagine what kind of music you are playing on the astral plane (and man, am I looking forward to that!), we remain very much blessed with your faithful friend, the wonderful archivist and preservationist Marsha, who lovingly saved your tapes (yay!) and brings them back to us with so much passion and caring. How great is it to have these modern digital transcriptions that bring back the past with such clarity and power? Let me put it this way - if people at work only knew where I really was with my ear-buds in, listening to Roy, while I was back under the lights, dancing again at the Saint / 54 / Ice Palace, wouldn't they be surprised? Yes - yes they would. We celebrate you and we miss you, but perhaps most importantly, we haven't stopped dancing yet! With deepest gratitude for all they joy you gave, and continue to give.

Loved going to the grove in the late 70's to listen to the magical sets. Every weekend through the summer.

My love for Roy’s music started at The Ice Palace in Cherry Grove. His artistic talent was something to behold. I’ve been listening to many of the tracks posted and the musical history that is here is incredible. Thanks for sharing a legacy that certainly won’t ever be forgotten especially by those who had the privilege to dance to his music! I’m so happy to have been a part of that era of music and dancing!

Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful. Many thanks to Marsha for this lovely tribute site and the continuous love pouring out for Mr. Thode. When I first heard his Debut Part 1 at The Saint on SoundCloud, I cried like a child at the memories it brought rushing back to me. I had the privilege to meet him at The Ring on West End Avenue where he DJ'd one night (I was working on the door), and am so glad I told him how wonderful his music was. Listening again has brought back so many memories: Studio 54, The Saint, Ice Palace 57, The Ring, Underground. Listening to these tracks separately from the noise, laughter and other distractions in the clubs at that time only increases my deep respect for his consummate musicality. What mixing; what audacious technical verve! No wonder I trusted him so completely as a dancer in the dance. God bless you, Roy! I am still dancing with you.

Greetings from SF Bay Area. Marsha thank you so much for posting these amazing sets. I have replayed them and enjoyed them immensely. Your intros are very much a highlight to the set and you have the best recorded speaking voice EVER. Bravo. Happy New Year
